Even if he was given the name of Cesare at birth, everybody has always called him Joe. Joe Colombo.
To say that he is an extraordinary character would be simplistic, but, how else could you describe him? After attending the Brera academy and the faculty of Architecture at the Politecnico, he becomes a painter, a builder, a motorcar salesman and an entrepreneur in the electrical field; then, as a mere thirty years old, he dedicates himself solely to industrial design, opening his own studio in Milan.
His personal history says that he was born in Milan in 1930 and grew creatively during the full economic boom. From his personal experience and genius were born designs that attained immediate international fame, winning three medals at Milan's "Triennale" (1964), a "Golden Compass" (1967) and a Design International Award in Chicago, in 1968. In a life that has only spanned forty one years, he has managed to create objects that have veritably redefined the concept of design, and that are exhibited in the most important museums throughout the world, continuing to be as contemporary as ever.
Like me, Boby, and also "Ring, Multichair e Crossed", the three chair models included in B-LINE's catalogue.
